Have you ever stumbled upon a forgotten gem in a corner of your local thrift store? Maybe it's a tired-looking footstool that's seen better days, but totally has potential to be brought back to life.

Well, you're in for a treat because in this blog, I am showing how I upcycled an old footstool using thrifted fabric, a little bit of paint and an IOD stamp to give it a total transformation!

Are you ready to get started?

In this blog, I will show you How To Upcycle An Old Footstool From The Thrift Store

Below is a list of the items you will need to recreate this project:

When I was shopping at the Goodwill bins I came across this old, worn footstool.

I noticed that it had screw on legs and was still pretty sturdy so I knew I could do something unique with this piece!

While shopping, this cream fabric piece also caught my eye.

The fabric used to be a curtain; it was thick and lined so I knew it was the perfect fabric for re covering this old stool!

First, I removed the 4 legs from the cushion so that I could paint them.

I used Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Newell.

You can check out all of the beautiful Fusion Paint Colors on my website here:

This color paired so well with the beautiful cream fabric.

Using a STAALMEESTER Fitch Artist Brush, I applied 1 coat of paint to each of the legs.

This color turned out perfect!

I let them dry while I got started on the fabric piece.

I decided to add an IOD stamp to the fabric. The IOD Mercantile stamp was the perfect size and style for what I was going for.

This IOD Stamp collection comes with 2 sheets filled with a variety of big and small stamp options.

Next, I added Stone Gray IOD Ink to an Empty Ink Pad.

I chose Stone Gray so that the stamp looked a bit faded.

Next, I inked up the stamp real good.

Then, I flipped the stamp over and pressed it into the center of the fabric.

Since this fabric is rough and textured, I did not expect a crisp stamp transfer.

I took my time pressing the stamp into the fabric so that it transferred well.

I was so impressed with how this turned out!

The stamp transferred exactly how I wanted it to; a little bit subtle and worn.

Once the ink dried, I set the fabric face down and laid the cushion upside down onto the fabric.

First, I made sure the stamp was centered and even before I started stapling the fabric down to the cushion.

Next, I folded the top edge of fabric over the seat cushion and added a staple into all four edges.

If you would like to see how I attach the fabric to the cushion, watch this video starting at 12:09.

Then, I continued to pull the fabric tight and stapled all the way around the cushion.

Not pictured: I used scissors to cut off the excess fabric so that it looked like the image below.

Next, I reattached the legs to the stool, flipped it over and that is it!
